LANGUAGE PLANNING, MAINTENANCE AND SHIFT: CHINESE AND EUROPEAN PERSPECTIVES
Vrije Universiteit Brussel
19-20 September 2018
Language maintenance and shift is a major issue in the study of linguistic communities in a migration contexts, and several studies have dealt with the issue concerning Chinese communities overseas. However, maintenance and shift are also central themes in the broader field of minority language policy and planning research, for instance within China. The aim of this project is to bring together scholars working on Chinese as a heritage language, and on issues of language planning, maintenance and shift more generally, to reflect on the maintenance and shift of Chinese and other languages of China, combining both European and Chinese perspectives on these issues.
